Pioneering Acitivity - April 2008
We are making Slippery Poles

For tonights activity Dave has been put on 'Red Alert' as our Pioneering expert. His challenge was to run a fun pioneering activity for 32 Scouts. After discussion on several ideas he eventually decided to let the scouts make Slippery Poles.

Two Scouts hold their finished 'triangle' for the camera. A good team effort which was led by an experienced PL and APL (both shown in the photo).

Scouts were given basic instruction on what they were expected to produce and shown how to do the required knots and lashings.

One of our more experienced Group Scouters(Dick) gives advice on anchoring the Slippery Pole' to one of our Patrol Leaders.

Thankfully during activities like this we are fortunate to have a lot of "Experienced Scouters", whom we can call upon when we need some expert help.

This is the 'Final Approach'. The group have constructed two end 'triangles' and have anchored one of them. They are now trying to anchor the second and include the slippery pole itself.

The scouts are starting to lay a groundsheet under the slippery pole. This will have either old gym crash mats or foam mattresses to protect those who fall off.

OOPS!

Looks like someone has fallen off!

Another one bites the dust...............
