The Scouts were set two challenges. The first was to build a bridge out of pasta and the second was to build a table out of paper (we did give them polystyrene tops).
The bridges and tables were tested for strength at the end.
There was one clear winner in the table category because it stood up to the strength test and also looked pretty much like a table.
The brige category was more difficult because the best looking bridge was not actually the strongest. It was howvere the only bridge made entirely of pasta and so it can undobtedly be classed as the overall winner.
The strongest bridge was a very practical design which included a cardboard base and this undoubtedly helped the bridge cope with the heavy train that was driven along it.
The weights were 1kg, 2kg and 3kig. They were used in various combinations to test the designs. |
